Tart Two Ways

Holi in Bangalore is different. We don't have a holiday, there are no sounds of people shouting and singing, no colour on the streets. And one has to wait till the work/school day is over to play, usually inside your home. We still manage to have fun.
So, my sweets for Holi are also different from the traditional Holi sweets. Biscuit crust tarts with two fillings: Orange curd, and Pedaa-Khoya.

Ingredients

For the crust:
2 packets Marie biscuits (I added half of Marie and half of some bakery butterscotch. The crust was very rich and crumbly. Delicious but difficult to handle so next time I'll stick to only the Marie biscuits)
50 gms cold butter, cut into small cubes
1 egg, lightly beaten (to seal)

Fillings:
1/2 cup orange curd
Pedaa filling:
4 pedaas (I had some Dharwad pedaas which someone gave us and no one in our house likes them. They are very sweet so didn't need to add any sugar)
2 tbsp khoya
1/3 cup milk

Method

Pedaa filling:
In a saucepan, put in the pedaas, khoya and milk. Stir vigorously till it all melts and comes together as a soft thick smooth micture.
Tarts:
Preheat oven to 180 C. Put the biscuits in a plastic bag and pound to a powder. You can also do this in a blender. Tip into a mixing bowl. Add the cold butter and rub it in till the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Brush a tart or muffin pan with butter. take some of the mixture and press it firmly into the bottom and sides of the tins. It will all stick together and when you press it in, it will become almost like a dough.
Bake in the oven for 10 mins.
Take out and brush some egg (or just plain milk) all over and bake again for about 5 mins till it is all sealed.
Take out and fill half with the orange curd and half with the pedaa mix. Put a cranberry on top of the orange ones, sprinke some cardamom powder and almond flakes on the pedaa ones and bake for another 5-7 mins.

Take them out of the over and cool. Carefully take them out from the tin, so they don't break.
Note:
If you haven't used up all the egg and are not worried about vegetarian eaters, dump it into the khoya mix and mix well. The mixture will be a little more firm.
